If you’re anything like me when I was newly-engaged, I’ll be willing to bet you already have a long list of wedding venues to tour. If historic DC spaces are your vibe, you no doubt have Larz Anderson House at the top of your list.
The Larz Anderson House is a Gilded Age mansion in Washington, D.C., built in the early 1900s. What I love about this venue is its dedication to history, but most of all the art is simply stunning! This home has been the premiere location for thousands of exclusive weddings and events, and even once welcome presidents and royalty, throughout the last 100 years!
The historic house holds a ballroom that features stunningly high ceilings with lavish gold trim and two mind-blowing chandeliers, perfect for a reception that impresses on every level. My favorite part of this room is its sprawling marble staircase, which is prime backdrop for your reception entrance. The serene walled garden, complete with a 300-year-old Japanese Buddha and two of the city’s oldest magnolia trees, is also an absolute show stopper as a ceremony or portrait location.
The entire home exudes opulence, sophistication, and grandeur. There is truly beauty and elegance at every turn, which made it the perfect location for Megan and Daniel’s big day!
The Ceremony:
The ceremony was held indoors due to a quickly developed storm, but Megan and Daniel still got a dreamy ceremony and exchanged vows in front of their closest friends and family. The ceremony was surrounded in stunning flowers, with gorgeous florals by Wander and Whimsy.
Cocktail hour and reception:
The cocktail hour was held in Olmsted Gallery- this elegant hall displays some of the Andersons’ largest collections. Guests were able to view the exquisite history, while sipping on spicy margaritas and French 75’s.
The reception dinner was held in Anderson House’s ballroom, under dimmed candlelight that enhanced the romantic feel of the evening. Megan and Daniel had their first dance as a married couple to “More”, by Bobby Darin, which was a beautifully choreographed masterpiece, with one of the most epic spins and dips I have seen all year!
The Personal Touches:
Megan and Daniel added personal touches to their wedding throughout the day including having Daniel’s aunt as their officiant, their daughter as their flower girl, and kept it intimate without having a wedding party. They included the cutest matchboxes as favors and had all of the couples favorite desserts on deck at the end of the evening.
The evening ended by a group sing along to “Closing Time” by Semisonic (an end of the night classic!) and the couple were whisked away to their after party at one of the local bars. Megan and Daniel had a beautiful wedding day that they will never forget. It was a day filled with love, laughter, and a packed dance floor. Their wedding will live rent free in our minds (and hearts) for a very long time!
